Viscount Matt Ridley has a seat in the House of Lords. He is the author of several international bestsellers. Most famous are “The Rational Optimist: How Prosperity Evolves,” a book that argues that human living standards have been rising fast and are likely to continue to do so, because of the accelerating exchange of ideas. The book won the Hayek Prize and was short-listed for the Samuel Johnson Prize. His non-fiction books, including “The Evolution of Everything: How New Ideas Emerge” and “How Innovation Works”, have sold millions of copies. He is a former American editor of “The Economist” and has been a scientist, journalist and businessman. He lives in Newcastle, England. He was a speaker at the 2011 and 2016 Annual Symposia.
