Ton Büchner is a board member of Novartis and the former CEO of AkzoNobel, the leading paints, coatings and speciality chemicals company in the world, headquartered in The Netherlands. Combined with its specialty chemicals activity, it serves many end user industries. Until 2011 he was CEO of Sulzer AG in Switzerland. Previously, he headed the Sulzer Pumps division from 2003 to 2006 and the Sulzer Turbo Services division from 2000 to 2002. He was chief representative for the Sulzer Corporation in China during the second half of the 1990s. Prior to Sulzer, he worked as a project manager in offshore construction, design and supervision in The Netherlands, India and Singapore, with offshore assignments in the North Sea and the South China Sea. He studied civil engineering at the TU Delft in the Netherlands, holds an MBA from IMD in Lausanne and was at Stanford University for an executive program.
